18 Aug QUOTE: Jefferson said “. . . Whenever you do a thing, act as if all the world were watching.”
As one of the Founding Fathers, a leading author of the Declaration of Independence, and the third President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson is known and revered for many things.
He would not, however, be one of the first people I would think of when I contemplate Public Relations or providing spot-on PR advice.
But earlier today I came across Jeffereson’s quote above earlier today in a Wall Street Journal article and thought, “I’ve got to share this quote.” So here it is.
Not only is Jefferson’s advice consistent with great counsel from any PR professional, but I believe it’s also important to remember that it was offered more than 200 years ago — long before the world of Twitter, camera phones and the 24x7x365 news cycle.
Bottom line? The more you or your business are in the public eye, figure that ANYTHING you say, write or do can and WILL be captured and shared — whether you want it to be shared or not.
