Are News Releases Dead? Dean Takahashi Says No.

07 Jul Are News Releases Dead? Dean Takahashi Says No.

Many so-called “Marketing Experts” claim that in today’s world Press Releases / News Releases are dead.

Really? Not according to Dean Takahashi, the Lead Writer for Venture Beat / GamesBeat, and one of the top Journalists on the planet covering computer and video games.

Take for example the image below. This comes from a screengrab I made of a Facebook post written in late May by Takahashi.

Screengrab of Dean Takahashi’s Facebook Post on May 31, 2017.

To me it’s pretty clear from his post that Takahasi believes that

  1. Writing blog posts,
  2. Sharing slide decks,
  3. Arranging WebEx briefings, and/or
  4. Writing/sending White Papers alone …

are not enough in the PR world. At least not for this journo with 25+ years of reporting & editing experience.

In fact, Takahashi states that “the absence of both a fact sheet and a press release” is “plain frustrating” because it requires him to “ask many unnecessary questions.”

So before you allow an “expert” to tell you news releases (or fact sheets) are dead, just share this Post with him/her.

Or have ’em contact me directly.
